Sarah Palin

DISCLAIMER:Alright, I am NEVER the first person to bring up politics in a conversation. Just ask David. Political conversations usually just piss me off. AND I don't want this to sound like I am or am not voting for McCain/Palin. This post is merely for your opinions.

I am curious of people's opinions on this whole uproar of Sara Palin's daughter being pregnant and she's 18. I don't understand why the media thinks that it is their right to air someone's private life. I'm being very honest when I say I haven't researched much of what Palin's views are on teen pregnancy and the teaching of abstinence in school or not. However, all of the things that I have heard in reference to this story say nothing to the effect that it conflicts with what her point of views are.
If you don't know what I am talking about here is a link to the story...

So herein lie my question's to everyone:

1: Do you really think that this will affect her ability to serve as the VP of the United States:?
2: Will knowing this little bit of personal information about her family sway your vote at all?
3: Do you think that the media should be able to expose these private things about candidates family members? I mean really, I wouldn't be voting for her daughter.

I do have to give appreciation to Obama. They aired a comment of his reaction to the news and he said that he would be the last person to chastise her because his mother had him when she was 18. I thought that was a good response from him. Below are my opinions to the questions.

1: No I don't think that this will affect her ability to serve as the VP. If anything this will show that she is a family oriented person as she supports her daughter in making the best of an unfortunate situation. Honestly, I bet every person that reads this post knows a family who has experienced something similar. One of my best friends got pregnant when she was a teenager and she has made the best of the situation and is an amazing mother. I think this will speak volumes of Palin's view on family support.
2: This information will not sway my vote one way or another. There are MANY more important things to look at that will have a bigger impact on my future and the future of my children.
3: I think that the media takes things WAY to far. Why do they always focus on the dirt about people and not the good stuff. Why can't they find god things about Palin, or McCain, or Obama or Biden. You SO rarely hear the good things, it's disheartening!

I am curious to know what you all think. I firmly believe that EVERYONE has their own right to their opinion and I am not one to debate it or tell you that you're wrong. So please feel free to leave your opinion. And, I would ask anyone that does comment to please not put down anyone else's point of view.
Thanks Everyone!

Jennifer: I agree with you completely. We are of the same mind. The media needs to look for good things to say and quit focusing on things they feel are bad and newsworthy. This is a good woman and a wonderful family. Move on please! Mom

I just think that it shows they are a normal family. Teen pregnancies are so common these days. It happens. Sarah's daughter got prenant, but how many girls are having sex but avoiding the pregnancy? The sin is the same, but in this case the world knows about it because of the baby growing inside of her. In no way do I think it means that Sarah Palin is unfit to be VP or a bad mom. And in no way does this make me think Sarah Palin's daughter is a bad person. Her daughter made a mistake, it happens. I think it is sad for the daughter that the media is all up in her business. I mean, I am sure she has enough heart ache and trials going on that she doesn’t need the media making it bigger. In no way will this change my choice to vote for Sarah Palin and John McCain. I think Sarah Palin is a real woman, dealing with real problems. In many ways it makes me respect her more.

It will be interesting to see what kind of responses you get as you first mentioned that it can be a heated subject. I agree with you. It wouldn't affect my decision at all if I were voting for her/John McCain (probably won't though). From what I've seen/heard/read they seem like a loving, religious family and I'm sure they taught her well. When it comes down to it the child will make their own decisions. I think it's sad that it's brought up and no I don't think it's any of our business but as they are in the public eye, we would eventually have noticed the pregnancy and so it's not like it's a drug addiction problem which would be invisible (most likely) to those outside the family circle. As public figures they must know that their private lives will be completely out in the open and that's one sad trade-off that they must face. This experience doesn't make me respect her more or less. She's an everyday person facing everyday experiences.

It doesn't sway my thinking at all. Things happen. While I don't think its right that they are going so far, I don't necessarily think the media is wrong. Thats what they do. I will say this: I think if the situation were reversed and it was in Obama's camp, it would be viewed as no big deal. That's what irritates me. I think its a difficult situation, but no, it wouldn't sway my vote.

What irritates me the most is that the media is nailing her for this and glorifying the Jamie Lynn Spears who is the same age and not married. So her mom (Spears) isn't running for VP but what does the media expect from teenagers when they see that sort of lifestyle all around them deemed 'ok'. This will not affect how she serves our country (it obviously hasn't affected her in Alaska. This does not affect our vote. And I agree with Obama...candidates children (like celebrity) should be off-limits. Or maybe we can make some money off of them? Maybe Palins daughter can auction of the first pictures for millions and get rid of some of our national debt. :) Just kidding. :)

Know what I think is funny about this? Her daughter getting pregnant during this time couldn't have been planned any better. While I don't endorse teenage pregnancy, I think it's done something good for Sarah Palin. EVERYBODY is talking about how her daughter is pregnant, which leads to conversations and debates of whether or not this makes her a good mother which then leads into does it matter in her candidacy and eventually other topics do fall in line.
And personally I'm glad that Obama said to stay out of their family business, but it would do him some good to keep his own little girls out of the limelight as well. So there you go. That's my thought.

int he long history of humans being on earth, i'm pretty sure this media thing did not just start. there has always been gossip rags/news and it's never going to change.

i don't think her daughters pregnancy will affect the way she does business, as it didn't when bush's daughter was caught doing drugs....or whatever other thing happens with past Presidents families!
