Going to the Hospital…

So yesterday I posted about peeing in a bottle. Yeah, lot’s of fun. Well, 1 year ago today we wound up in the same position that we were trying to avoid. Let me take you on a journey…

David got home late Thursday evening. He told me that he was going to be really busy the next day, so I would go to my appt with Dr. Bowen and then he would go to  my ultra sound appointment with me. I was really bummed, but I didn’t say anything because I knew had been gone and needed to catch up on stuff. I started to get an upset stomach, so I went into the front room and had a bowl of cereal. I got back into bed around 1:00, and at 4:00 Tucker woke up for some reason, I rolled over and knew that something was wrong. I rolled over to David and I remember clear as day saying, “David, Tucker is awake and something is wrong with me I need your help.” He jumped up and set Tucker up with cartoons in the front room because I needed some major attention. I don’t know exactly what was wrong, but I didn’t feel well. When David came back I told him I was going to throw up but I couldn’t get up, so he went and got me a bowl. I threw up 3 or 4 times before I finally calmed down. It was brutal. Finally morning came around and it was time for my appt. David gave me a piece of bread to try and keep down, and I had a few sips of water.

At the Dr. office my BP was 150/102 and I had 4+ protein in my urine. Dr. Bowen, who is usually so laid back, came right into the room and said, “You have preclampsia, we need to take the baby today.” I looked at David and said, “Call my parents.” Because I had eaten a piece of bread and had a few sips of water that morning, we had to wait the 8-hours so I could fast. So they scheduled me for 6:00 that night. So we headed home to tie up some loose ends and spend time with Tucker. My parents jumped into the car immediately, and David’s parents came down around 3:00 to be with Tucker.

On our way to the hospital David and I were both full of nerves and excitement. We got in and all set up, and my nurse told me that there were a couple of emergency c-sections that had come in that would be taken before me. My BP was so high that I needed to be monitored regularly in case I had a seizure. David and I were so annoyed that we were having to pay for an extra hospital stay, but we mostly laughed about it. Around 7:00 we were told that there was another emergency and it wasn’t looking like they would get me in until 9:00 at the earliest. So, I suggested that we do it Saturday morning as long as Dr. Bowen could still do it. After checking the nurse came back and told me that would work. I was glad because I was starving. Hospital food had NEVER tasted so good as it did that night. My parents came right to the hospital and got there about 8:00. We were able to visit for a little bit, and then it was time for all of us to get some rest. The next morning was going to be a BIG day for us. We were finally going to get to meet and hold our beautiful daughter!
