August 21, 2011– Worst nurse, more bad news… but blessings beyond measure

Continuing from yesterday…

The next day was Sunday, the 21st. The pain was still extreme and I was pushing the button for my pain meds as often as I could. I had so many different fluids being pumped into my body that I had to make myself eat what I could and still need the anti nausea medicine. That morning they did an Ultra Sound of my heart and all was well. They also did scans of my legs to check if there were clots there.

Yesterday afternoon and evening David called both of our parents. David’s parents were in Texas for his sisters reception, and my parents were in Cali getting ready for my Mom’s big family reunion the following weekend. David’s parents were flying home on Sunday. All morning David and I had been trying to figure out what to do with Tucker while I was in the hospital. We really didn’t want to uproot him again and send him to David’s parents house, but we were ready to do whatever we needed. As soon as David’s parents landed they called him and before we could even bring it up David’s Dad told him that they were heading home and as soon as they got there David’s Mom was going to pack a bag and head down to our house to be with Tucker for as long as I was in the hospital. HUGE blessing! I couldn’t even believe it. I was so glad because I don’t think I would have done as well not being able to see Tucker every day. It was all very confusing for him as it was.

Renae had kept Tucker all night, and said it was kind of rough on him, but she was with him the whole time. I later heard that while he was in nursery, he was not himself at all, and once the leaders found out what was going on they were so sad for him. After church Renae brought Tucker over to see me, and so David could take him home and wait for his Mom. Renae took Bailey to visit Jennifer Ballard in the ward, and it was the second and last time I was alone in the hospital. But, before they all left, Dee Knapp (relief society president) came to visit me and see what was going on. While there she set up a whole schedule to have people come in for 3-hours at a time each day to hold Bailey or sit with me so David could go home and shower, rest, or just have some time. Seriously, it was amazing!

Just before David, Renae and Dee left, a male nurse came bounding through the door and asked me if I was Jennifer Mize. When I said yes he said, “I just got a phone call that you have a large clot in each leg. You are on strict bed rest. You cannot get up at all because then the clot might dislodge and go to your brain and you could die.” In a shocked state I said, “Um, ok.” Then he left… and that was it. I was SO angry! After Renae and Dee left, I remember crying to David because I couldn’t believe what had just happened. Needless to say, every nurse knew what had happened by the end of the day, and that particular nurse was order to go nowhere near my room for the duration of my stay. It was so awful.

I finally talked to my parents that afternoon. I was too sick the day before to talk to anyone. The text messages started pouring in from all of my family and friends. I was so surrounded by love that it was overwhelming and I KNOW that it helped in the healing process. So many people reached out to us, and it meant so much to me.

I can still remember lying in the bed thinking that any time they were going to let me go home. It hadn’t really registered to me yet, that I was going to be in there for awhile. All I knew was that the Lord was watching over my family and I, and we were being blessed beyond measure in SO many ways.
