Nap Time

Alright, I need some suggestions. Tucker takes a really good nap during the day, but it is always in his swing. I don't mind that he naps in his swing but sooner or later (probably sooner rather than later) he is going to be too big for it. It only holds 25 pounds and he's already 16 pounds. So I need ideas/suggestions on getting him to nap in his crib. We have no problems getting him to sleep in the crib at night. I think tomorrow I might try letting him nap on the bed in his room and see if that works. But once he starts rolling that will be out as well. So any and all suggestions are welcome! :)

So Ella would take four hour naps in her swing before it broke. Once it broke we were forced to go cold turkey to naps in her crib. That's the only way I know how so I'm sorry I don't have any other profound wisdom. It took about four days for her to get used to napping while not moving... those four days sucked.

My mom suggested that maybe Tucker likes being where you are or maybe there's some noise going on where the swing is. She said try putting a mobile that makes noise or something in with him in the crib.

Yup, that mobile thing is what we did. I got the water fall noise thing that goes with the fisher price rainforest set. Bella liked it the first time we used it. And I liked it because you can use it with the music and motion or just the music. Bella still likes to listen to the music when we lay her down. When we go on vacation we take it with us and she still sleeps fine. That's my idea.

My baby napped and slept in her swing for four months. One night we just put her in her crib because we were sick of the swing. We got her some toy that hooks on to the crib and made white noise, I can't recall what it was, but it worked. It took some time, but she got used to it. And I was a happy lady.

These are all good sugestions, my advice is to not worry about it. Let him sleep in the swing during the day as long as he continues to do well in the crib at night. When he is too big for the swing, deal with it.

When my children were babies, I put them in their crib for nap time and bedtime. The swing was for during the day when they were awake and I wanted them to see what was going on around them. I put colorful toys and a colorful mobile in their crib. They eventually knew that when they were in their crib it was time to rest and sleep. I didn’t want them to think that they had to be rocked before they went to bed. If they were clean, dry and fed, they were happy. You will find what works best for you. Mom

I remember worrying about that same thing with Bella. I think it's ok that Tucker sleeps in his swing. It's great that he is sleeping. Bella would sleep in her swing for quite awhile. I remember thinking that she would never take naps in her bed, but she is actually a great little sleeper. Someone gave us a Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Seahorse. It plays soft music, and calm ocean sounds for about five minutes. That really helped her enjoy taking naps in her bed. Good luck!

I would recommend weaning him off slowly with the swing. We try not to use the swing as a time to sleep but instead we have used it for when baby is awake. Swings are great, but sometimes they are not best to use for nap time.
