In mid June David was approached about a position coming available within his company. His boss encouraged him to apply for this position. Not sure that he was completely qualified, he applied anyway based on the encouragement of his boss. We were pretty sure it was a long shot, but after talking decided that it would be good exposure for him to the interviewing process. We didn’t hear much after he applied, until the beginning of July. David was told that one of the Senior VP’s wanted to do a phone interview with him. That was on July 9th. Things went really well, because the next week he had another phone interview with another Senior VP. Next thing we know, 2 weeks later, David and I are heading to Seattle so that he can have a final interview with another Senior VP. We were both very surprised and taken back by the whole situation. I was extremely proud of David for doing so well at work and making a good impression on some important people within the company. I knew that no matter what happened, that he would do great. We had left the kids with David’s parents so we could have a chance to drive around and look at some different areas to possibly live. We also took the opportunity to go to the Seattle Temple since Portland was closed at the time. We both knew for a certainty, that coming out of the temple, no matter what happened with the interview, the Lord’s hand is in it all. The next day, Wednesday the 31st of July, David had his interview. I took the opportunity to do some shopping downtown. When David and I finally met up again, he was so anxious and excited. He felt really good about the interview and we both just kept talking about how we know that the Lord has his hand in whatever happens. We talked to David’s boss on the drive home and she said that she couldn’t wait to hear the feedback from Chris (the VP who David had interviewed with).
The next 2 days were INCREDIBLY long as we waited to hear. Not as long as they could have been since we thought we were going to have to wait a week or so. At this point we were both pretty confidant that he had gotten the position, however, we still didn’t have confirmation. Then, Friday morning, David calls me and he had officially been offered the position. It was SO surreal. I had just gotten to the carousel in downtown Salem to meet my friend Shannon and her daughter. She was the first person that I told of my friends. It was weird to actually say the words, “David got the job, we are moving to Seattle.” For so long we knew that any promotion within David’s company would take us to Seattle. We just didn’t know that such a great promotion would come as quickly as it did. From there, things just progressed so easily. Everything fell into place, and we feel SO blessed.
On September 4th, we headed out of Salem to start out journey north. We stayed the night at David’s parents house, and then left the kids with them for a few days so that we could get everything settled in the house we were renting. David and I headed up to Seattle on Thursday, September 5th. Neither of us had seen the house we were renting, in person. We found it on Craigslist and asked my Uncle Don and Aunt Debbie to check it out. The only thing my aunt said after she had seen the house was, “YOU WANT THIS HOUSE!” So, we took her word for it and are SO glad we did. I don’t know what we would have done without their help. This is our first picture in front of our house. First order of business was to hang the flag!
It helped TONS that we got a relocation allowance so we were able to get movers. I was able to unpack everything while they brought in all of the boxes and furniture. Aunt Debbie, Uncle Don and Abbie came over the evening of the 6th after the movers had left. They helped me get the kids rooms ready, and the brought us dinner. Both things very much appreciated. The next day, Saturday, David’s parents brought the kids up. Our biggest concern was having the kids rooms ready, and the playroom. Because I am so type A and anal, we pretty much had the house all unpacked and livable. It was GREAT! The kids were excited to see their new rooms, and explore the house. Throughout this whole move, both of the kids have been great. Tucker was nothing but excited to get to a new house and meet new friends. So grateful for the Lord’s hand in all of this change. Despite all of our looking around while David and I were up here for the interview, we wound up in Lynnwood. Funny enough, we had stayed at a hotel here a few years back for Easter when we were visiting Uncle Don and Aunt Debbie. I think it was to prepare us for this.
The kids and I have adjusted well to our new area and surroundings. We have already made some great friends, and continue to make new ones. David absolutely loves his job. He loves being in the corporate office, and having so many people around. His commute is about 45-minutes, but fortunately he enjoys being in the car and it gives him a chance to listen to his sports radio and unwind. We are excited for all of the adventures that are in store for us here in Lynnwood, WA!
